The following are candidate statements submitted by members interested in running for the Board of Directors at the 2013 Annual General Meeting. Other members who are interested in running can declare their candidacy at any point up until the AGM, and can submit their candidate statements at any time before that through this online form.
I’m running for the Board of Directors of Harvest Noon as a means to get involved in food politics in Southern Ontario, to share knowledge about growing food & cooking food, and to connect with a like-minded community. As someone who enjoys cooking, baking and making preserves, as well as growing fruits and vegetables, I’m really excited for this unique opportunity. I bring with me four years of vegan cooking experience with the People’s Republic of Delicious (PRD), a weekly pay-what-you-can community kitchen in Ottawa. For two of those years I also volunteered in an administrative role at the PRD; keeping meeting minutes, sending out membership e-mails, and updating the PRD’s online presence. I also have previous Board experience, at the Ontario Public Interest Research Group Ottawa (OPIRG), where I served for a two year term. During my time at OPIRG we adopted specific board-member positions, and for the second year of my term I worked on the Action Groups Portfolio, liaising with OPIRGs various working groups and the staff person who worked as the Action Group Coordinator.
In terms of the specific tasks required of the Harvest Noon board of directors, I’m particularly interested in promotions & advertising, grants & funding, and co-ordinating with other community organizations. These are areas where I have a bit of experience and am eager to learn more. I also have some experience in event planning and working with staff members, from my previous board and work experience. I hope that in some way my experiences and ideas can be put to use at HarvestNoon to help this co-op continue to thrive, and would be honoured to be a member of the Board of Directors. In any event, I definitely look forward to spending a lot more time at Harvest Noon in the coming year!
Hi Harvest Nooners!
I’m a Nutritional Sciences student who’s got a taste for the food scene on campus. You can find me Co-Presidenting for the Culinary Arts Club or Outreach Directoring for the Nutritional Sciences Students Association or attending U of T Food Advisory Committee meetings. I love what Harvest Noon offers, and I have a couple ideas that I think would make it even better:
1. Integration of a nutritional perspective! As Outreach Director for the NSSA, I would love to help to make Harvest Noon more nutritionally informed – ideas I have include getting nutrition student(s) to help with menu planning, posting up nutritional information on meals, etc. And I’d be happy to take on other suggestions too!
2. Collabs with other groups so as to spread the word about the wonderful world of Harvest Noon. For example, the Culinary Arts Club has almost 1000 food-loving followers, and it’d be great to see cross-pollination between these groups – other possible partners could include Hart House’s $5 Lunch, Dig In!, etc.
Overall, I think I could be useful to the co-op in coordinating with other groups. I’m a busy kid, but I only do the things I care about – and I care about Harvest Noon. So, hopefully you’ll want me on the board, because I certainly want me there 🙂
My name is Nico and I’m a part-time undergrad student. I’ve only recently become involved with Harvest Noon in the last few months, but I’ve really become fond of it. The people and the food are amazing! (shout out to the bread and hummus Mondaycrew too!) I have an interest in corporate social responsibility, so I would like to get more involved with the financial and funding side, but I would be happy to help out in any way possible.
My name is Elie and I’m currently a second year student. I’m studying in Human biology and French. I would like to run the board because I want to contribute to Harvest Noon. I personally love to cook and to eat food too! It would be amazing to be able to support local, sustainable and organic food while providing happiness to U of T students and members.
I am interested in many of the tasks from finances to coordinating with other groups. However, there are two particular areas that I would like to contribute in such as promotions & advertising and events. I love to plan events just like in high school I was part of the Student Council and we would have to plan different kinds of events over the year. I was happy to see students enjoying these special events. I also like to promote and advertise because I am very updated on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook, I have created a group for my course in order for students to connect and ask questions about the course.
My ideal goal would be to inspire more students to aim to eat more locally, sustainable and organic food at Harvest Noon!
Thank you for your time ! 🙂
